Part one of two. When a skull is found buried in concrete in a church crypt, Boyd seeks to find out who it belongs to and why it is there, but gets little help from the Church authorities who seem bent on obscuring the facts. When another body is discovered the finger of guilt points to a workman, but why has a retired priest been so uncooperative and why is the corpse adorned with ritualistic symbols? Boyd resolves to solve the case and confront his own demons over the disappearance of his son at the same time.
