Season 1 Episode 7 of 8

Ruth Goodman, Alex Langlands and Peter Ginn tackle the conditions of 1944, when the fields surrounding the farm filled with troops assembling for the D-Day invasion. The farmers of the time did their bit by growing flax, used in parachute webbing, fighter aircraft fuselages, tents and ropes, but the wettest summer in a century has devastated the crop at Manor Farm, leading Alex and Peter to take drastic action to save it. Meanwhile, Ruth revives the craft of basket-making to transport the racing pigeons used to carry vital intelligence to and from occupied France, and painter Leo Stevenson follows in the footsteps of artists commissioned by the government to capture the wartime landscape on canvas

Wartime Farm airs on Together TV at 4:45 PM, Monday 30 December.
