The Machine comes up with the social security number of project manager Scott Powell, who had been laid off several months ago from a position in the construction industry, although his wife is unaware of the fact. Reese and Finch discover that he recently applied for a firearms licence and had been e-mailling threats to a congressman he blames for the loss of his job, but matters are complicated when Finch realises the man's computer has been hacked.
