Hollyoaks
Originally devised by Phil Redmond, who also devised "Brookside" and "Grange Hill", "Hollyoaks" premiered on Channel 4 on October 23, 1995. The soap opera is mainly filmed at studios in Liverpool. Its main focal point is a higher education college called Hollyoaks Community College in a fictional Chester suburb, with characters generally being in their late teens or early twenties. The show initially aired weekly, but now broadcasts each weekday. "Hollyoaks" is the only British soap to make use of incidental music, usually a variation of the show's theme. In September 2009, the show broadcast a special week of storylines played out in a non-chronological order. On December 21, 2009, a flashforward episode was screened, where the show's time-line moved forward six months into May 2010. The main cast is refreshed on a regular basis and Tony Hutchinson, played by Nick Pickard, is the only cast member to have appeared consecutively from the show's inception. A number of late-night spin-off editions have been broadcast, including "Hollyoaks: Movin' On", "Hollyoaks: Let Loose" and "Hollyoaks: In the City".
