The Inheritance season two: Here's what we know so far
By Susan Brett | Mon Oct 14 2024Channel 5 thriller The Inheritance has found a new audience since streaming on Netflix. Here's what we know so far about The Inheritance season 2.
While the ending of The Inheritance explained its main mystery, some questions lingered after the finale and fans are hoping for a continuation of the drama.
What is The Inheritance about and when did it first air?
The Inheritance revolves around three siblings—Sian (Gaynor Faye), Daniel (Robert James-Collier), and Chloe (Jemima Rooper)—who are shocked to learn that their father’s estate isn’t theirs to inherit after his mysterious death. As they dig deeper into their father’s life, they unravel dark secrets that challenge everything they thought they knew.
First aired in September 2023, the series marked a significant step for Channel 5, which had been striving to make its mark in the crime thriller genre. Previously, the network had seen mixed success with dramas such as The Teacher and Heat, but The Inheritance was widely regarded as a step-up in quality.
Critics praised the show for its tight plotting and strong performances, particularly the dynamic between the three siblings and the slow reveal of the family’s hidden past.
Entertainment Daily noted that it was "gripping" with a "brilliant" plot.
Where can I watch The Inheritance in 2024?
While The Inheritance has been available in the UK to stream on My5 since release, it can now be streamed across the globe on Netflix.
Now streaming across multiple countries on Netflix, The Inheritance has reached a much wider audience. It has quickly risen in popularity and currently sits in Netflix’s top ten most-watched shows. This new wave of viewers has renewed interest in the series, as new fans watch the show for the first time and share their enthusiasm on social media.
It's not the first Channel 5 drama to see international success on a streaming service. Sitting alongside The Inheritance on Netflix's top ten most-watched list is The Cuckoo, starring Jill Halfpenny, which first aired on Channel 5 this year. Elsewhere, Sally Lindsay dramas The Madame Blanc Mysteries and Cold Call have both found success on Acorn TV - as has the beloved Channel 5 veterinarian series All Creatures Great and Small.
Will The Inheritance return for season two? What we know so far
Although The Inheritance left some fans with burning questions, Channel 5 has not yet confirmed whether the show will return for season two. While the main mystery of Dennis’s murder was resolved, there remains plenty of potential for a possible continuation.
Whether Channel 5 or Netflix chooses to continue this story or create a new thriller in a similar vein, fans are eager for more gripping dramas that keep them on the edge of their seats. Until then, thriller fans can enjoy more recent Channel 5 dramas such as The Wives and work their way through Netflix's current catalogue.
