Amandaland series 2: Everything we know so far about the return of Motherland spin-off
By Helen Fear | Wed Mar 12 2025Amandaland will return for a series 2, BBC One has confirmed, proving that leading lady Amanda really is as popular as she thinks she is.
The first run of the BBC comedy starred Lucy Punch as the vacuous leading lady we all love to hate... And, after a "standout debut" she'll be back for more.
Hardly surprising when you think about the amazing supporting cast, not least the ever-fabulous Joanna Lumley who easily stole every scene.
So what do we know about a series 2 of Amandaland, including start date, plot, and cast. Here's everything the Beeb has shared so far.

Is there a series 2 of Amandaland?
BBC One has confirmed that Amandaland will return for a second run, after the success of series 1.
Since launching, Amandaland has become the BBC's second biggest comedy launch in recent years (excluding specials such as Gavin & Stacey).
The six-parter averaged 6.4 million viewers to date, which is behind the brilliant Ludwig, which averaged 9.5 million.
Amandaland followed Lucy Punch as the titular character, who is forced to downsize and up sticks to South Harlesden, or as she prefers to call it "SoHa". after her divorce.
With both Manus and Georgie at secondary school, Amanda had to try and get her head around raising teenagers, dealing with modern motherhood horrors like teenage drinking, fake Instagram accounts and eco anxiety. All from the very lofty heights of her high horse.
Co-writer and creator Holly Walsh said: "We've been bowled over by the response to Amandaland and can't wait to get co-labbing on the next series."

Who will return in the cast?
It was undoubtedly the ensemble cast of supporting characters that made Amandaland the hit it was.
All are expected to return in Amandaland series 2, although Peter Serafinowicz's character Johannes - a South African property developer - was kicked to the curb at the end of series 1. And not before time!
Joanna Lumley will reprise her role as Amanda's mother Felicity, a lady completely in denial that she was, in fact, as lonely and dysfunctional as her daughter.
Philippa Dunne returns as long-suffering doormat Anne, who seemed to have mislaid half of the children she popped out in three seasons of Motherland.
Samuel Anderson will also be back as Amanda's neighbour Mal, alongside Ekow Quartey as JJ, Siobhán McSweeney and Rochenda Sandall as Della and Fi.
Of course, fans of the show will know that the writers are setting up a possible romance between Amanda and Mal, possibly the most unlikely pairing to ever grace our screens... But then we thought that about Amanda and Kevin in Motherland, and ended up rooting for them!

Lucy Punch is 'the most extraordinary front woman'
Sharon Horgan, Co-Founder of Merman said: "With any new show you put out there, your main hope is to make something you love and are proud of. The extra bonus is that it's a critical hit. But to have a loyal audience of this size is just beyond your hopes and expectations."
She added: "The incredible cast and writers, director and production team worked so hard on this show and it's so wonderful to see that hard work pay off.
"Special thanks to Lucy Punch for being the most extraordinary front woman and to the BBC for having such faith in the idea of Amandaland from the off."
Amandaland series 2 start date
As it's only just been announced, we're not expecting Amandaland series 2 anytime soon.
If decades of writing about telly is anything to go by, we suspect it will land about a year after the first. Watch this space for more news, but we're hoping for a series release date in early 2026.

Amandaland reviews
The comedy series Amandaland received some pretty good reviews during its first run. It's not a patch on Motherland in our opinion, but there are enough lovable characters to outweigh the bad.
The Times gave it five stars and said: "Lucy Punch carries most of the heavy lifting with ease, and the result is not only a spin-off that punches above its weight: it is lovely, life-affirming escapism."
The Daily Mail wrote: "Joanna Lumley has made a career out of stealing shows. She can be great in a starring role, but when she's the support act, she's Absolutely Fabulous.
"From the moment she stumbles through the front door in Amandaland, Dame Joanna gathers up the laughs and sweeps them into her handbag like an aristocratic shoplifter on a spree."
Heat added: "With a hilarious dialogue from the same team who write Motherland, a glorious cast of characters old and news, and a dazzlingly fast and funny opening episode, Amandaland looks like being just as fabulous as its parent show."
The Independent said: "Amandaland will make you howl with laughter - Lucy Punch has never been better."
