Film Club on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer is a brand new romantic comedy-drama created by and starring actress Aimee Lou Wood, who appears opposite TV favourite Suranne Jones.

The upcoming series is described as a "piercingly funny and utterly heart-warming screenwriting debut from two of the UK's most exciting voices". Step forward actors Aimee Lou Wood, and Ralph Davis.

Film Club is a "witty and emotional show about love and family". It also poses the question whether we should "follow our hearts or heads" when in love with a friend...

Here's everything we know so far about the upcoming BBC Three comedy Film Club, including plot, cast, and start date...

What is the plot of the new comedy drama starring Aimee Lou Wood?

Film Club centres around Evie, a young girl who hasn't left the house in six months after a 'wobble'. Every week, on Friday nights at 7pm, Film Club is her escape. It's Evie's chance to "create a world of wonder, deck the garage out in whatever the movie calls for and spend a few uninterrupted hours with her best friend Noa". Noa is her best friend and, truth be told, one of the few mates who still shows up.

However on Film Club night 198, things are different... Noa's got big news. Evie is shocked when he announces he's been offered his dream job across the other side of the country.

That means no more film club. Not only that, the pair may actually have to confront the fact that they care for each other more than just good friends should...

A BBC synopsis adds: "As if life weren't challenging enough already, Evie is going to be navigating this amongst the eccentricity of her family home - living with her fiercely loving single mum Suz, sister Izzie, and handsome boyfriend/sometime man of the house Josh."

How can I watch Film Club? When is the start date?

Film Club will eventually air on BBC Three and iPlayer. The series has just started filming in Manchester and will land on our screens in 2025.

Co-creator and star Aimee Lou Wood said: "I'm thrilled that our beloved TV series Film Club, a project that Ralph and I have been writing for the past decade, starts shooting this week.

"We couldn't be more excited, and grateful, to the incredible team we have assembled with the BBC. To bring this to life with Nabhaan and Suranne, two exceptional actors I have always admired, is a real honour."

How many episodes is Film Club on BBC Three?

Film Club will be six episodes of 30 minutes each.

It is co-created and written by Aimee Lou Wood and Ralph Davis, with Anna Jordan (One Day, Killing Eve) joining the writing team for episode four.

Who plays Evie?

English actress and writer Aimee Lou Wood, 29, portrays Evie in the upcoming romantic comedy-drama Film Club.

She also created the series, alongside fellow co-star Ralph Davis. Aimee is famous for playing Aimee Gibbs in Sex Education. She also recently appeared in Daddy Issues, where she played Gemma alongside David Morrissey.

To headline a TV series, one must possess a certain spark. In the case of Aimee Lou Wood, that spark would be better described as a dazzling firework display. Whether audiences have spent five minutes or five days' worth of TV watching her, they'll know she has that something special needed to star centre-stage in her own show.

She debuted in the popular Netflix series Sex Education in 2019, reprising the role of Aimee Gibbs for five years to craft one of the most endearing characters in recent memory. After a string of TV roles in the likes of Alice & Jack and Daddy Issues, she's taking her talents to Film Club...

She'll soon star in the hotly-anticipated White Lotus series 3, so watch this space.

Who is in the cast of Film Club on BBC One and iPlayer?

Nabhaan Rizwaan portrays Evie's friend Noa. He's known for his roles in Informer, Kaos, Juice, and Station Eleven. In 2020, he played the character Hari Dhar in a devastating storyline in Industry.

Suranne Jones plays Evie's eccentric and unconventional mother in the cast. Of course, she's famous for playing Karen McDonald in Corrie, before becoming a TV favourite in the likes of Vigil, Doctor Foster, Scott & Bailey, Save Me, and Gentleman Jack.

Ralph Davis, star of House of the Dragon, and Big Boys, will play the film club's newest member Dominic. Ralph co-created the series, alongside Aimee.

Happy Valley star Adam Long plays Evie's boyfriend Josh, while Three Girls' Liv Hill portrays Evie's sister, Izzie.

Film Club is expected to air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in 2025.
