Deadpoint is currently in production, Channel 4 has confirmed, and the five-part action thriller will take audiences deep into the Welsh mountains…

This new “nerve-shredding” series comes from the producers of Netflix’s smash hit, Baby Reindeer. So we know we’re in good hands.

Viewers will follow a  group of Welsh climbers who encounter a far-right faction plotting a violent act in their local mountains. Well it’s certainly topical.

Here’s everything we know so far about Deadpoint on Channel 4, including plot, cast, start date, and location.

What’s the plot of Deadpoint on Channel 4?

So, what’s Deadpoint all about? The drama follows a group of climbers torn apart by a fatal accident. As if that wasn’t stressful enough, they then find themselves facing a far-right organisation known as the Justice Crusade.

As the story unfolds, the climbers must confront the unforgiving landscape of Eryri National Park. There’s also the dangerous individuals who have chosen it as the setting for their violent mission. They are led by the charismatic but unstable former soldier Fairweather (Micheal Socha in a role made for him).

A synopsis tell us: “Set amongst the awe-inspiring and unforgiving landscape of Eryri National Park, a close-knit community of climbers is left reeling after a tragic accident on a mountaineering expedition.  As the group is torn apart by grief, Aaron blames himself for the accident and abandons his hometown, to the fury of his sister Seren.”

The “unique wilderness thriller” explores themes of loss, radicalisation and survival. Channel 4 adds: ” Deadpoint is a literal cliffhanger, grounded in the tensions existing in our society today, exploring who we are, who we pretend to be, and what we do when the rope snaps.”

Who wrote the series? Who’s the director?

Matt Hartley wrote and created Deadpoint. It’s his first major step into television drama. Channel 4 has called his script bold, tense and character-driven.

The series is produced by Clerkenwell Films, the multi-award-winning company responsible for acclaimed dramas Baby Reindeer, The End of the F***ing World and Misfits.

Meanwhile, German filmmaker Marco Kreuzpaintner acts as the lead director. He is responsible for shaping the first episodes of the series. He’s worked on high-profile titles including The Lazarus Project, Bodies and the upcoming historical drama Those About to Die.

Further episodes will be directed by Laura Scrivano, who has credits on Wedding Season, The Lazarus Project and Alice.

Where is Deadpoint on Channel 4 set?

The C4 series is set and filmed in Wales, with Eryri National Park providing a striking but hostile backdrop. The mountains are more than just scenery, becoming an essential part of the drama. They will reflect both the physical and emotional challenges faced by the characters.

Eryri National Park was formerly known as Snowdonia. It was renamed Eryri “to prioritise and promote the Welsh language and its cultural heritage”, following a decision by the Eryri National Park Authority in 2022 to use Welsh place names in all official communications.

It’s Wales’ largest National Park, covering a total of 823 square miles. It’s home to over 26,000 people.

The show is produced by Clerkenwell Films, part of BBC Studios, with support from the Welsh Government via Creative Wales. The backing reflects a growing trend of major productions being filmed in Wales. These productions take advantage of both the landscapes and local talent.

Who is in the cast of Deadpoint on Channel 4?

The cast of Deadpoint features a mix of familiar names and rising stars. Leading the ensemble is Welsh actor Callum Scott Howells as Aaron. He’s best known for his heartbreaking role in It’s a Sin and, more recently, The Way.

Annes Elwy plays Aaron’s sister. Also Welsh, she’s famous for her roles in Little Women, Hidden, The Light in the Hall, and Wolf.

TVGuide.co.uk favourite Michael Socha stars as the unstable former soldier Fairweather in what sounds like inspired casting. The former This Is England star recently took the lead role in Showtrial, and DI Ray.

Emmy-nominated actress Christine Tremarco, completes the main cast list. She’s famous for her roles in Adolescence, The Gathering, and Emmerdale (where she played Rose Jackson).

The ensemble cast is completed by: The Bay‘s Gary Lewis, Game of Thrones’ John Bradley, Kin baddie Sam Keeley, and Blue Lights‘ Martin McCann.

Other names include The Crown’s Fflyn Edwards, Riot Women‘s Emily Stott, The Gold‘s Ellora Torchia, and The Great’s Gwilym Lee.

Also in the cast are: Michael Jibson (No Return), Crystal Condie (Dear England), Siôn Alun Davies (Steeltown Murders), Oliver Finnegan (Outlander), Rhodri Meilir (In My Skin) and Arthur Hughes (Shardlake, The Jetty).

Now THAT is a cast list.

‘A gripping thriller with depth and complexity’

Andy Baker, Executive Producer for Clerkenwell Films, said: “We couldn’t be more excited to be making Deadpoint with C4, BBC Studios and Creative Wales. Matt’s created a gripping thriller with a depth and complexity that speaks to our very divided times, and we have a brilliant pair of directors, a fantastic crew and a truly amazing cast bringing it to life.”

The production company has made it clear that the show aims to be more than just action. There will be an emphasis on emotional storytelling alongside the suspense and danger.

Gwawr Lloyd, Interim Head of Drama at Channel 4, said: “Deadpoint is a bold and incredibly tense thriller that places characters and their journeys at the heart of high-stakes action. Matt Hartley’s debut script is as gripping as it gets and all set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Eryri mountain range.”

She added: “We’re delighted to be working with Clerkenwell Films and the brilliant cast and crew; this series promises to be as thought-provoking as it is pulse-raising.”

When’s the start date?

Filming is currently underway in Wales. Channel 4 has not confirmed a start date, but the series is expected to air at some point in 2026.

Clerkenwell Films’ previous dramas have found success on major streaming platforms such as Baby Reindeer on Netflix. This series looks set to follow a similar path.
