Little Disasters is described by Paramount+ as an “emotionally terrifying story”, but filming the six-part series actually sounds idyllic in some stunning locations around the UK and Europe.

The new psychological thriller, based on the bestselling novel of the same name by author Sarah Vaughan, centres around a group of women and their husbands…

Their combined friendships are tested to the limit when one mistake has a devastating fall out for all. But, despite the hard-hitting plot of Little Disasters, the cast had a blast filming in some pretty stunning locations. Here’s everything we know.

Where was Little Disasters filmed?

Cast and crew filmed Little Disasters in various locations across Richmond, London, and Budapest.

Jess’ stunning house is in Richmond – the best part, of course! In episode 4, Mel and Jess visit Richmond Park, with disastrous consequences, which results in another hospital visit.

Richmond is an affluent town in south-west London, bordering the River Thames. It’s famous for Kew Gardens, Richmond Park, and its main street The Quadrant.

‘The book and the show are set in Southwest London’

Talking about the London location, writer Amanda Duke said: “The book and the show are set in south-west London, which is my patch. They actually filmed some key sequences in places I used to go – particularly a park where I have some wonderful memories of my youngest learning to walk and going sledging when it snowed.

“So that whole world is very familiar to me – this aspirational, safe neighbourhood where some people live in beautiful £3 million houses, whilst others are hanging on. I identified with the hopeful, aspirational element of living in a beautiful part of London, surrounded by these lovely NCT friends who you actually have nothing in common with, but who become a real
lifeline.”

Other scenes were filmed in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, which doubled as Provence in France. The group of friends travel to a stunning rental house in episode 2 of the drama.

Reminiscing about their time there, Shelley Conn said: “There were tonnes of lovely moments [on set], but the time we spent in Hungary was special. We worked through the summer and there just seemed to be this idyllic glow to everything. We’d work and then go out for dinners that felt really natural and lovely.”

Meanwhile, Patrick Baladi added: “The filming we did in Hungary was great. It was 38 degrees, and my girlfriend came out to visit for a week, we would meet up with JJ [Feild] and his other half and all go out on these electric scooters. My girlfriend hadn’t been on one before, which was the source of great
amusement to all of us. We eventually learnt how to negotiate the Budapest traffic and headed down to the river and had some drinks and lunch which was just lovely.”

‘Hungary doubled for Provence, France’

Stephen Campbell Moore also found the time in Hungary pretty special, saying: “When we were shooting in Hungary, we just had this brilliant thing where we got to enjoy our time on set and then meet for dinner later and hang out. I particularly enjoyed my relationship with Emily (Taaffe) – there’s a very real simpatico there. We had such a feeling of ease, trust and appreciation of each other’s judgment and also total forgiveness if something wasn’t working.”

Jo Joyner revealed: “What was also nice was we spent a lot of time shooting in Hungary, so we got to hang out and have some really lovely dinners. It was a joy to work on and I felt really, really lucky.”

She added: “Hungary doubled for Provence. It was beautiful out in the
countryside, and it was the first time that the cast had all been together. We filmed in this incredible location with all this beautiful outdoor space – our art designers did such a fantastic job. There was a big dinner table scene where all the couples were interacting – and I loved the nuanced hints that something darker was going on. Then I had some fun bits with Diane (Kruger) where we got to play drunk, be a little bit cheeky and then have a nice big row! We got to do it all.”

We’re sick with envy to be honest.
