Unforgotten series 6 has felt like a long time coming to ITV, with nothing from DCI Jess James and DI Sunil 'Sunny' Khan in 2024.

But ITV has finally revealed the good news that the popular detective show will be back in 2025. Hallelujah!

The new series, created and written by award-winning screenwriter Chris Lang, will once again see the lead detectives investigating a complex cold case investigations.

What's the plot of Unforgotten series 6 ?

The sixth series sees the return of Sinéad Keenan and Sanjeev Bhaskar as DCI Jess James and DI Sunil 'Sunny' Khan - and not before time.

Fans of the show will know that Irish actress Sinéad replaced Nicola Walker's DCI Cassie Stuart in 2023 after the character's tragic death in series 4.

However, it's been a long wait for more episodes. Series 5 ended in April 2023 - with no new episodes coming in 2024.

Series 6 sees Sunny and Jess delve into another unresolved crime. The series begins when suspected human remains are uncovered on Whitney Marsh. Jess and Sunny are immediately called to the scene, abandoning their evening plans - much to the annoyance of Jess' husband.

Dr Balcombe's analysis reveals that the remains are relatively recent and suggest a grim conclusion: the body was placed there already dismembered.

With this insight, Jess and Sunny intensify their search certain that other body parts may not be far away...

Who is in the cast?

Goodness Gracious Me star Sanjeev Bhaskar returns as DI Sunil 'Sunny' Khan, alongside Sinéad Keenan's DCI Jess James - let's call them good cop, bad cop for argument's sake.

Viewers will also be introduced to a diverse new cast of characters, including The Witcher's MyAnna Buring as Melinda Ricci. Melinda is an outspoken television commentator based in Ireland.

Newcomer Max Fairley portrays Martin 'Marty' Baines, an autistic man living with his mother Dot in Deal, Kent. Elham Elas, also new to TV, stars as Asif Syed, an Afghan training for his UK citizenship test.

Doctor Foster's Victoria Hamilton portrays Juliet Cooper, a history lecturer and faculty head at a London university.

Celebrated British actor Jan Francis (Just Good Friends) also joins the cast, as does The Split's Damien Molony. While these characters live seemingly separate lives, they are intricately connected by their pasts...

Returning cast members include Andrew Lancel (The Bill)) as Jess' husband Steve, and Death in Paradise's Kate Robbins as her mother Kate.

Jordan Long returns as DS Murray Boulting, Carolina Main portrays DC Fran Lingley, and Pippa Nixon returns as DC Kaz Willets. Georgia Mackenzie also returns as Pathologist Dr Leanne Balcombe.

How many episodes is Unforgotten series 6? How can I watch?

Unforgotten series 6 will be six episodes as per usual. Each episode will be one hour long, including ads.

All five series of Unforgotten are currently available to watch on ITVX.

When's the start date?

Unforgotten series 6 will arrive on ITV1 and ITVX in the winter schedule. That's between January and March 2025.
